Movies and Netflix

It’s getting too expensive to go to the movies, especially with premium priced 3D and don’t even think about the concession stand. So what’s a movie fan to do?

With the jump into streaming media, Netflix looked sure to take the lead, until the recent price hike which seems to have cost them a great deal of their subscription disc base. I still like the idea of having lots of movies available to download, but Netflix lost their contract with Starz, so what’s left are documentaries, which is fine, but also mostly B movies.

For me, for the big movies, Blu Ray is just the way to go. Instead of spending 50 bucks on tickets, you can wait two months after a movies release in some cases, and purchase them for 20 (doing the math here for a family of 3).

If you get yourself a projector, order your popcorn from Amazon, and throw in a cheap surround sound system and blu ray player, you won’t miss the crappy seats and sticky floors. Me and the family prefer it to the movies for most flicks.

Besides, aren’t you sick of the 3D and the douchebags who won’t shut up?
